Yolo Akili is an astrologer, poet, longtime human rights organizer and
student of the esoteric. He is graduate of Georgia State University with
A Bachelor of Arts in Women's & African American Studies. He is apart
of the original founders of Sweet Tea: Southern Queer Men's Collective;
an organzation dedicated to addressing sexism in Queer communites.
He serves as an organizer for The Atlanta Queer Literary Festival and
the United 4 Safety LGBTQ DV Taskforce.
Yolo was also apart of the creative team that helped to establish
"Da C.R.I.B.B", an HIV prevention community center in Atlanta for
young African American gay men.
He is the author of the poetry chapbook, "Poems In The Key Of
Green" & His poetry, essays and work have appeared in Oracle 20-20,
The Charis Review, Aquarius Atlanta, The Atlanta Journal Constitution,
Atlanta Intown Newspaper, and much more.
He was the feature performer for the 2008 "State of Black Gay America
Summitt" and has performed and featured At Agnes Scott College's
Unity Banquet, Charlotte & Atlanta Black Pride, and The 2009
Southeast Students Against Sweat Shops Conference. He is a 2008
ZAMI Award Recipient, and also received a 2008 "Unity In Community
Award" from Unity Fellowship in Christ Church Atlanta.
He is currently studying Iyengar Yoga at the Yoga of India School in
Sandy Springs & is on staff at Men Stopping Violence, a social change
organization dedicated to ending violence against women.
